Technology

- the difference between what works and what does not

For products that are to be used in very demanding conditions to work, the technological requirements must be very high. Scanmar has, since the beginning 30 years ago, had a highly qualified staff of development engineers who have purely worked with developing the Catch systems. In order for the technology to work as desired in practical use, very advanced production equipment and highly qualified operators are also required.

All together this means very large investments, and Scanmar has invested many tens of millions of American dollars. This is the reason Scanmar has the outstanding market position it has.

From some who do not know Scanmar we are occasionally asked what technology means in practice, and how Scanmar products are distinguished from other products. Briefly summarized we can say it like this:

  • Work under all conditions, and in large depths and long distances
  • Robust and reliable sensors
  • Little service and repair
  • Long working time and short charging time
  • Simple to handle; little labor-intensive
  • Large range of sensors and bridge solutions; custom solutions for any need

It has taken 30 years for Scanmar to acquire the experience and develop products that make us who we are, and in practice this is the basis for why Scanmar is preferred to others with simpler and cheaper solutions.

The premise for a product to be considered a good product is that it satisfies the users demands in terms of capacity and reliability. With the requirements demanded by society today products often have to be based on advanced and modern technology. This is especially the case for products one depends heavily upon and they are used in difficult conditions.

For Scanmar the requirement has always been that the technology has to be the best possible for the task it has to solve. That the products will be used on large depths and under difficult conditions result in extra large demands on the technology, and involves extensive testing and trials on different types of vessels all over the world.

Many may not realize how extensive and costly it is to develop new, advanced technology, so we will explain some key elements. But we can inform you that we have spent more than 350 million Norwegian kroners so far, and the development continues.
