Range calculation: Scanmar has “noise recordings” from more than 1000 vessels, and has conducted calculations of the range for a “normal vessel” – The range is dependent on several conditions, but especially the sending frequency and sending effect. Scanmar’s sensors have earlier always been in the 190 dB (decibel) area.
The illustration shows an often-used frequency area in Scanmar’s new SS4 sensor (39 kHz). The curves show the range with sending effects from 170-190 dB and corresponding range. The power consumption is halved with each 3 dB reduction in sending effect, and with 8 step variations, which is shown here. Self-discharge over time will reduce the operating time between each charging.
What is referred to here apply to Scanmar’s sensors, hydrophones and receivers, and it is far from given that it also applies to other suppliers.
