17.06.11 Scanmar’s new Distance Sensors

Meeting all Fishermen’s Requirements

Although Trawl Eye, Trawl Speed / Symmetry, Door Angle, and the new SuperCatch sensors have revolutionized the meaning of capture control for many fishermen, it is the distance sensors that have meant the most to most people.

They simplified the work of rigging when new equipment was purchased or when repairs were needed and alerted fishermen when not everything was right with the doors (or trawl).

As for the other sensors, experience and technology have unlocked possibilities for a number of improvements and new purposes, both functionally and structurally in terms of what is now the market standard and has been since Scanmar launched the first distance sensors more than 25 years ago.

Scanmar has put a lot of work in developing distance sensors that meet the fishermen’s desires:

  • Long operation time between charges; Scanmar’s new sensors have five times as much battery capacity as the old sensors, and since the transmitting power can be adjusted based on distance to the vessel most will experience further improvements in operation time.
  • Labour-saving; it is not only the increased operating capacity that makes the new sensors labour-saving. The construction is such that they do not have to be taken out of the holders of charge. The charging time is so short that it is not necessary to have two sets of sensors or to make a haul from time to time without sensors mounted.
  • Installation on the door leaf (not through) means the doors do not lose spread capability due to a bulge on the back side.
  • New receiver technology in sensors gives increased accuracy and improved reliability. In addition, compensation for the speed of sound in varying water temperatures gives increased accuracy.
  • The new sensor is multifunctional and can be combined with Door Angle and stability, Temperature, Depth or Tension functions.
  • Financially viable; in the basic version the new sensors are no more expensive than the old ones despite the new technology. And for those who use the Depth or Angle (or both) as well there will be big savings.

Scanmar’s new Distance Sensors come in the following variations:

a) Standard version, the same as today
b) Standard version with limited angle and stability measurements for old cabinets (e.g. CGM, RX-400, 60x and 4000)
c) Upgradeable main sensor, limited Transponder
d) Fully upgradeable sensors for both doors

Upgradeable means that the sensor can be upgraded with other features, e.g. angle, temperature, depth, or tension.

Scanmar is now in the final stages of development. Some sensors will be tested on different vessels for a trial period to see what changes are necessary; production will start at the beginning of the year.

As expected there is a high demand for the new sensors and we must assume that it will take some time before the production rate can satisfy the demand. We register orders as we receive them and will deliver in the same order as soon as the sensors are produced.

Therefore, to help those who need new Distance Sensors before the next generation comes out; we will offer the old sensors and give full credit if they are exchanged within a year.

Also, for those who have old sensors they wish to trade in, we will offer a replacement scheme in which the amount of credit allotted depends on how old the sensors are. This will also apply for one year.

Similar promotions will also be given to those who acquire the new Door Angle sensor before the new generation comes out.
